OUR HISTORY

Our story begins in Mexico City where Bon Appétit awarded Chef Lula Bertran the honor of being one of the best female chefs in all of Mexico. Trained by Chef Bertran, Chef Geraldine Gilliland opened Lula’s doors over 32 years ago, and we’ve been a Santa Monica institution ever since. Today Lula is delighted to carry on our traditions while introducing new celebrated fare from all regions of Mexico.   

FUN FACT: The iconic tequila brand Patrón launched their first tequila at Lula in 1991!
